Obituary of Delbert C. Walk

Delbert C Walk, 79, of Girard, formerly of Palmyra, passed away Thursday morning, May 16, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Delbert was born on July 3, 1939 to Charles Edgar and Eva Marie (Duncan) Walk in Palmyra, IL.

Delbert graduated from Palmyra High School with the class of 1957. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965, during the Vietnam War, obtaining the rank of Airman First Class. Delbert was a hog and grain farmer in South Palmyra township, working on the family farm. He later was an accountant for the State of Illinois, retiring in January of 2003. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville and also attended the Concord Primitive Baptist Church in Palmyra. Delbert was a Master Gardener and loved woodworking. He was a former Macoupin County board member and the South Palmyra Township supervisor. Delbert was a member of the Palmyra Lions Club and was proud to be the campaign manager for Representative Paul Finley.

Delbert is survived by his son, Douglas (Jennifer) Walk of Bement, IL; two daughters, Diane Roemer of Carlinville, IL, Michelle (Jeff) Miller of Springfield, IL, as well as 4 grandchildren, Nathan and Joanna Roemer, and Isaiah and Josiah Walk.

Delbert was preceded in death by his parent and 2 brothers, Clifford and Donald Walk.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 20, 2019 from 10:00 am to Noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville, IL. Funeral services will follow visitation at Noon at the church with Rev. Cliff Woodman officiating.

A private graveside service will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
