Obituary of Leo Kalaher Sr.

Edward Leo Kalaher Sr., 97 of Carlinville, passed away Saturday morning, April 25, 2020 at Heritage Health Care in Carlinville. Leo was born November 14, 1922 to Patrick and Helen (Jetton) Kalaher in Carlinville. He graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1940. On February 16, 1944 he married Dorothy Marie Rosentreter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Carlinville. They were married 76 years. He was a member of Ss. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church of Carlinville. He was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer in the Carlinville area, retiring in 2004. Leo always enjoyed fall harvest and lunches in the field. He also enjoyed gardening, and vacationing with his wife Dorothy, especially going to Branson. Leo is survived by his wife Dorothy, Carlinville; two daughters, Rosemary (Don) Arnett of Carlinville; Shirley (Larry) Rodgers of Cedar Rapids, IA; son Edward L. (Kay) Kalaher Jr. of Carlinville; 5 grand children: Michelle (Steve) Niermann, North Liberty, IA; Julie (Jeff) Behme, Patrick (Becki) Kalaher, of Carlinville; Elizabeth Daniels and Chris (Sloan) Daniels of Bloomington, IL., and 8 great-grand children and several nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents; 1 infant brother; 1 great grandson and 2 sisters, Mae Rosentreter and Louise Woods. Due to the Corona Virus, private family services will be held. Burial will be in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville. Memorials may be made to Carlinville Food Pantry or Saint Vincent DePaul.
