Joseph A. Mercer, 57 of Springfield, passed away Tuesday evening, November 10, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Joseph was born October 18, 1963, in Jacksonville, IL, a son of Elmer and Eunice Inez Doles Mercer. Joseph attended Carlinville High School with the class of 1982. Before he graduated he joined the United States Army and served his country for 6 years. After leaving the service he married Tamatha (Smith) December 28, 1987, in Bowling Green, MO. Joseph worked as a CNA in Springfield for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his family, as well as fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Floyd Mercer, sister, Wanda Parkison and a grandson. Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Gilead Cemetery in Hettick, Illinois. Burial will follow next to his parents. Joseph is survived by his wife, Tammy Mercer of Springfield, IL, daughter, Shianne (Colt) Farley of Springfield, IL, son, Michael Mercer of Los Angeles, CA, daughter, Lacy Edwards of IN, 11 grandchildren, brother, Dale (Kim) Mercer of Palmyra, IL and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to To the Mercer Family. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
