Donald R. Burke
84 of Girard, passed away Sunday evening, May 10, 2015 at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard, IL.
Donald was born on February 11, 1931 to Thomas and Mable (Cook) Burke in Girard, IL.
Donald was career Navy, active duty from February 14, 1948 through February 22, 1967, serving as a parachute rigger. He received the following medals, ribbons and awards. The Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal with 25 stars, the National Occupational Medal with European Class, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Taiwan Straits), Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm. After retiring from the Navy, Donald worked and retired from Boeing Aircraft. He was a member of the Girard First Baptist Church.
Donald is survived by a sister, Betty Garbin of Girard, IL; four nieces, Judy Ersery of CO, Barb (John) Blackburn of Lincoln, IL, Patti (Bill) Tweryon of Rochester, IL and Debbie (Ralph) Sheffield of TX; three nephews, Jeff (Lisa) Garbin of Bettendorf, IA, William (Kathy) Burke of Auburn, IL and Tommy Burke of TX and a sister-in-law, Helen Burke of Girard, IL.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Gene, Bill and Bob Burke. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard with funeral services following at 11:00 at the funeral home with Chaplain Terry Link officiating.
Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL. Donations Information
