Obituary of Leo W. Cordes

Leo W. Cordes 80, of Girard passed away Friday evening, April 5, 2013, at Sunrise Manor in Virden, IL. Leo was born January 27, 1933, in Windsor, IL, a son of Leo L. and Nellie (Zimmer) Cordes. Leo married Dorothy Dorband, June 7, 1931 in Charleston, IL. Leo was preceded in death by his parents and brother Marion Cordes. Leo graduated from Windsor High School in 1951 and later from Eastern College in Charleston. After graduation Leo joined the Army. Leo taught school for 2 years in Assumption and then moved to Girard in 1959. Leo taught math for 28 years at the high school and retired in 1987 after 30 years of teaching. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard and past President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Girard Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed building boats and built two homes for his family. Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Cordes of Girard, son, Rick (Valerie) Cordes of Litchfield, daughter, Lynn (Brian) Noel of Anchorage, AK, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson and a niece and nephew. Funeral Information Friends may call Sunday 4:00 to 7:00 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard where funeral services will be held at 7:00pm Sunday evening with Revs Rich McElfresh and Jacob Butcher officiating. Graveside services will be held Monday, 10:00am April 7, 2013 at the Cochran Grove Cemetery in Windsor, IL.
