Melvin E. Dunn
74, of Carlinville, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Carlinville Area Hospital.
He was born Monday, August 31, 1936 in Hettick, Illinois, the Son of Joseph and Susan B. (Bilbruck) Dunn. He married Jean V. Scheller on December 26, 1954 in Carlinville. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2001.
He was a member of Carlinville United Methodist Church.
Mel retired from the Carlinville School District in 2007. He drove a bus for 52 years. Mel also retired in 2003 from Moore Research in St. Louis, Missouri as a sales rep. Earlier in his life, he owned and operated Mel Dunn Garage, getting his start from working with his father-in-law at the City Service Station in Carlinville. Later, he and Jean ran the Breakfast Barn Restaurant. After closing the restaurant, Mel worked at Ace Hardware as the manager. He was the past Civil Defense Director for the City of Carlinville. He was the Mayor of Carlinville for a brief time, also.
Survivors: Daughter, Kristy Staggemeyer (Brad) of Carlinville, Daughter, Amy Markle (Companion: Rich Probst) of Carlinville, 6 Grandchildren:, Michelle, Adam, Rachel, & Dayna Staggemeyer, Andrew Markle and Joel Oberdieck, 5 Great-Grandchildren, Brother, Denzil Dunn of Chesterfield, Brother, Joe Dunn, Jr. of Carlinville, Sister, Evelyn Hughes of Carlinville, Sister, Wanda Elledge of Cottage Hills, Sister, Melba Ribble of Carlinville, Sister, Wilma Kreoger of Carlinville, Companion, Doris Hall of Carlinville, Sister-in-law, Lenice Jackson, Florida, Several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife, Jean, daughter, Beverly Oberdieck, brothers, Tom, Sr., Ivan, Clarence, & Robert Dunn, sisters, Delores Dunn & Daisy Mae Conklin. Funeral Information
Visitation: 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 13 at the Carlinville United Methodist Church.
Services: 5:30 P.M., Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the church with Rev. Robert Taylor oficiating.
