James "Jim" Garner 57, of Carlinville passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on October 15, 1956, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Norman I. and Alta P. (Corder) Garner. Jim married Karie Boatman on July 1991, and they later divorced. He graduated from Carlinville High School, class of 1974. Jim worked for Birmberry Construction in the home improvement business and also did custodial work for the Carlinville Post Office, Library, U.S Bank, and Carlinville High School. In 2006, James began working for the City of Carlinville with the Street Department and at the present he was working at the Water Treatment Plant where he was a Technician. Jim was a very active member of the Carlinville Lion's Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award, past president and served as the property chairman for many years. Jim was also a member of the Carlinville Moose Club and Emmanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are his mother, Alta P. Garner of Carlinville; son, Jimmy (fianceeĢ Brandi) Garner of Carlinville; daughters, Shannon Hessler of Chesterfield and Erin (fiance' Dwight) Eades of Carlinville; sister, Karen (Richard) Maxwell of Longmont, CO, brother, Charles (Linda) Garner of Searcy, AK; 5 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman I. Garner. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville. Rev. Cliff Woodman will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville. Donations Information The family suggests memorials be directed to the Carlinville Lion's Club
