John B. Gerber
age 96, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday Morning, August 5, 2012 at Heritage Health Facility in Carlinville. He was born on January 30, 1916, in Carlinville, the son of Charles Henry and Agnus Martha (Boente) Gerber.
Mr. Gerber was a 1936 graduate of Carlinville High School. During WWII from 1942 to 1945, he was in the US Army Air Force Air Transport Command based in Memphis, serving in Europe, Asia and Africa. He married Dorothy Drury on December 23, 1945 in Washington D.C. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2008, following a marriage of nearly 63 years.
Mr. Gerber partnered with Albert Paul in running a grocery store before his entry into the Mobil oil and gasoline distributorship which he operated for many years until his retirement in 1976.
He is survived by three children, daughters Donna Kasten (Carl) and Mary Therese Gerber, both of Carlinville and a son, Dennis Gerber of Liverpool, New York. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather DeNeve, Toni Gotcher, Nathan Gerber, all of Carlinville and Martin Kasten of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gerber is preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Gerber; brother, Charles Gerber and two sisters, Agnes Tipps and Marjorie Repasky.
Mr. Gerber was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville and was an active member of the Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412, Guy Baird American Legion Post #544, the Country Kuzins Square Dancing Club and the Carlinville Wing RV Camping Club. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville with the Elks Ritual following at 8:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery in Carlinville with Guy Baird American Legion presenting honors. Donations Information
