Jeena R. Greenwalt
49, of Chicago, formerly of Carlinville, passed away May 30, 2015 after a long battle with cancer at the Hospice of Southern Illinois in Edwardsville.
She was born June 24, 1965 in Carlinville, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Evelyn "Tootie" (Rhoads) Greenwalt. Jeena graduated from Carlinville High School in 1983 and from Illinois State University in 1988.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Carlinville. Jeena worked all her life with children and adults with special needs and disabilities in North Carolina and Illinois. She worked for 20 years at Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA) most recently as Executive Director. Some of the programs Jeena championed are Special Olympics, Cultural Arts, Golf Marathon, Adaptive Sports, Day Camps, and At-Risk Youth Programs.
Jeena loved fishing, camping, entertaining, and spending time with family and friends. She adored her nieces and nephews and had an unforgettable smile and zest for life.
Survivors include Father, Richard Greenwalt of Carlinville, IL, brother, Jay Greenwalt (Angie) of Carlinville, IL, sister, Jana Schweizer (Steve) of Edwardsville, IL, and sister, Jodi Valdivieso of Solana Beach, CA. A special aunt, Rhonda (Mike) Caveny-Jones. Nieces and nephews, Aimee (Will) Guyer, Kari (Tyler) Unterbrink, Sheena Greenwalt, Greg Schweizer, Bailey Valdivieso, Britten Valdivieso, Sam (Megan) Greenwalt, Jeff Schweizer, Hank Greenwalt, and Daisy Valdivieso. Great-nieces and nephews, George Unterbrink, Kennedee Guyer, Kolt Guyer, and Grace Evelyn Unterbrink.
She was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents, Owen "Speck" and Nettie Rhoads, Albert "Curly" and Mary VanWinkle, and Everett Greenwalt. Funeral Information
Jeena's remains will be cremated and a private family service will be held at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Carlinville Elks Lodge, 201 West Main Street, Carlinville, IL with Reverend Kevin Strope officiating followed by a Celebration of Life. As per Jeena's request, she wanted her family and friends to enjoy an afternoon of food, music and remembering the good times. Donations Information
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jeena's honor may be made to Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association (NEDSRA), Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
