Condolences
I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are never alone. You can find much comfort in the Holy Scriptures which assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken at heart and crushed in spirit. Please accept my deepest sympathies.
To the Griffel Family, My heart is broken for you all. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers My God give you strength during this very difficult time.
We feel so sad upon hearing the news. Lance was in Tim's class at CHS. Of all places lately, we have taken some of our own comfort in a line from a movie when a father tells his daughter that the person may be gone, but the love always stays. Sending you strength.
May your family find strength in such a difficult time. In honor of such a kind soul. Lance will live on through all the lives he touched in such a short time. Our family's prayers are with you.
I was a friend and roommate of Lance's at Western. He was a great man with a kind heart. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that my prayers are with you.
I did not know your son, brother, or best friend. I just know that this was such a horrible tragedy and my heart goes out to all of you who have felt this bitter loss. Please know that there are others thinking of you all and praying for you!! May you find peace in your lives!!
JuDee and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. May God give you strength, comfort and peace in the coming days and years. May he wrap His arms of love around you for only He understands what you are feeling and going through.
To the ED Griffel Family

Ed, JuDee, Greg, Jodi, Jessica, Jess, Jake, Jordy, Mason, Peyton, Max and Bootsie Lou
There are not words to express the depths of sorrow and the void losing him has caused. He will be missed by all that knew him. I know that he is watching over all of you right now and always. The love he had for you all is more than mere words can describe. He was an amazing person, with such love and life in him that it was an honor for anyone who was blessed enough to meet him. I am so sorry for your loss. Lance, I will forever be thankful for meeting you and having 12 years in your life. I loved you the minute I saw you and that love never diminished over the years. Lance, you are and always will be the love of my life and I will never forget what we shared. I will love through eternity, in this life and every life. Until I see you again...xoxoxo
Love, Val
To the Griffel Family, I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss. I remember riding the bus with Lance & Greg when we were young boys; Lance was always a great guy. I remember him as strong, loyal and good-natured with a great sense of humor and an unbreakable grin. Being so far away makes it hard to keep in touch, but I recall the last time that I saw Lance; we had a great time catching up and he hadnt changed a bit from the guy I remembered. Still the same great demeanor, still the same grin. He was a great man and I am terribly sorry for your loss. My love and aloha go out to your family. Me ke hohonu aloha menemene, Na waimaka o ka lani. - My deep sympathy, the tears of Heaven fall at the loss of a loved one.
Dear Griffel family...Linda and I would like to say how so very sorry we were to learn of this tragic happening. We got to know Lance a little as he dated our daughter Amanda when she was attending Blackburn. He was such a nice young man to be around. Amanda thought he lived at Rural King as they went there a lot..at least according to her...but she didn't like the store...now it has become one of her favorite places to shop. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. We just pray that God will give you comfort at this time to see you through. We were honored to have known Lance....God's Blessing and healing on you all....
To all of Lance's family members including Max and Boots, I didn't know Lance but, nonetheless, all of you have my deepest heartfelt sympathy during this very, very difficult time. When I read about the passing of a person such as Lance, it makes me wish I would have known him. I would have felt honored to call him a friend. Anyone who has a soft spot and true love for animals always touches my heart, too. This proved all the more what a loving and caring person Lance must have been. Again, you have my most sincere sympathy.
I attended church with Lance as well as school until we graduated in 1995. Lance was a very sweet person and will truly be missed. I am very sorry for your loss. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Greg, Jessica and families, You have our deep and heartfelt sympathy. We didn't know Lance but the tributes and his smile speak for themselves. We can only imagine the loss to you, your parents and your boys. You are all good people and we are so sad you have to endure such a tragedy. Our prayers are with all of you.
To the Griffel family: We send our sympathy to you all at this terrible time. May God give you comfort.
Dear Griffel Family,
My sincere and deepest condolences for the loss of Lance. Although I had only known him a very short time, it was clear he was a very sweet and wonderful soul. I feel blessed to have been able to go enjoy his company on a trip to Key West just last month and to have hugged him on that tragic night. I would give anything to have him and Lori back in this world. His smile was definitely infectious...and in the short time that I have known him, he was smiling a lot. He will be missed and never forgotten. Please let me know if you need anything.
Sincerely,
Keely Absher
We are so sorry for your loss. We will continue to keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers. We are both originally from Carlinville and my husband works at Caterpillar in East Peoria. Please know we will be thinking of your whole family during this difficult time.
Griffel Family,
I met Lance while we were both living in Decatur and worked out at the same gym. He always had a smile on his face and was a really fun guy. I know he thought so much of his family and my heart breaks for you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
The world was a better place with Lance in it. His infectious laugh, warm smile, kind demeanor. I am so so very blessed to have had him a part of my life. I remember the first day I met him- at the gym naturally. My heart is in pieces and I pray for comfort for you all. I wish I could take the burden of the pain. Lance- I love you forever and a day! To all those he loved and cared for- you were his world. Hugs- Kerri

I hate hearing this news about this great person. Sending love and healing thoughts to the entire family.
Mind numbing. I got to know Lance during some time he spent at H&H on his journey up the ladder. He was always thinking, always engaged, always ready to add his thoughts to a project. He was also a guy that made you glad you shared some time with him everyday. Success was always on his mind. We can't express our sadness.
We are thinking of all of you so much, and pray for your strength now and in the days ahead. No one should have to go through what you are. What a wonderful guy Lance was. Love, sympathy, hugs and prayers to all of you
I graduated with Lance in 1995 what a wonderful man. I am at loss for words because i lost my daughter in december. What a wonderful person who touched so many lives Lance will never be forgotten.
Ed, Judy, Greg, Jessica & family, Lance was always such a kind guy. His smile could light up a room. You have our deepest sympathy.
Dear Griffel family, We were shocked to hear of Lance's passing. Lance had been our neighbor in Peoria for the last few years, and was always quick to offer a friendly smile and greeting. He was always so nice to us and our dogs. Our dogs enjoyed near daily play dates running laps along our fence line with Max. In fact, our dogs were laying by the fence, staring at Lance's back door, waiting for Max to come outside this afternoon! Please know that we are thinking of you, and our hearts go out to you and your family during this difficult time. Lance will be missed by many.
I worked with Lance in Decatur and stayed in touch after he moved to Peoria. He was a great person that will be missed by all of us

Ed, JuDee, Jess, Greg, Jodi, Jess, the boys and of course Max and Boots
Where do I begin, what do I say? I have been pondering what words to choose since I heard the horrific news. The love you all share will never be forgotten and never broken. This has always been something I have admired and can say a lesson I learned from Lance. My heart was broken once by him and its breaking all over again. This first heartbreak I would never take back. I can't stop thinking "Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all". Please know I have been blessed to have known Lance and had him in my life. My heart aches for your pain and sorrow. I will be praying for you for many years to come. God bless you now and always.
Love, Amy

Mere words cannot adequately express the sadness I feel for your family. May God bless you all and give you strength to get through this. Hold tight to your wonderful memories. . .they are motivation during such times. His spirit will never leave you!
God earned an angel when you were brought home that's for sure. Seems so surreal. I'll be thinking of your family and closest friends during this time of sadness. No possible way anyone is prepared to lay you to rest. May God wrap his arms around those that can't bear another second of what has happened.
JuDee, Ed and families, I pray for Father God to lay His hands on you and your family, I ask Him to give you strength, comfort and peace during this very difficult time. My deepest sympathy Patti Bormida Hays
