Gerald Eugene "Gerry" Huyear
63, of Springfield, formerly of Carlinville, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Capital Care Center in Springfield.
He was born September 6, 1947 in Carlinville, the son of Clarence Huyear and Ione (Hewitt) Huyear-Lynn.
Gerry graduated from Carlinville High School in 1965, and then recieved his BA in Education at SIU-Carbondale in 1969. He was a veteran of Vietnam, serving in the Army and recieving the Bronze Star. Gerry taught 6th grade in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was also a skiing instructor and a member of the American Legion. Since living in Springfield, Gerry attended the Cathederal of The Immaculate Conception.
Surviving are his mother, Ione Huyear-Lynn (Elmer) of Springfield, one brother, Joseph Huyear (Diane) of Carlinville, two sisters, Betty Brese (Gene) of Indianapolis, IN, and Brenda Muench (Tom) of Springfield, several nieces & nephews, two Godchildren, Dawn & Emerson Holifield, and his Godmother, Grace Huyear of Carlinville. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 P.M., Saturday, February 19, at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 19, at the church, with Rev. Angel Sierra officiating.
Burial will be in the New Calvary Cemetery in Carlinville, with military rites being conducted by American Legion Guy Biard Post 554. Donations Information
