Walter Lancaster Jr. 84, of Palmyra, passed away Tuesday evening, February 19, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Walter was born on April 3, 1928 to Walter and Eva (Nickens) Lancaster in Girard, IL. He married Alma Gardner in November 1943 in St. Louis, MO and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2007. Walter worked as a plaster finisher for several years. He later worked and retired in 1990 from the City of Girard as the Water Supervisor. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church in Girard and enjoyed woodworking. Walter is survived by a son, Larry Lee (Gwen) Lancaster of Modesto, IL; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Lancaster; parents, Walter and Eva Lancaster and 2 sons, Robert Dean and Frederick Joseph Lancaster and a brother, Gordon Lancaster. Funeral Information A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Girard with Rev. Richard McElfresh officiating. Burial will be held in the Girard Cemetery at a later date. Donations Information Memorials are suggested to the Girard Fire and Rescue Squad.
