William E. "Bill" Meece
William E. "Bill" Meece, age 83, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 3:15 P.M. at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Carlinville. Bill was born January 9, 1925 in Hillyard Township, Macoupin County, the son of Coy and Julia C. Kahl Meece. They preceded him in death.
Bill was a lifelong resident to the Carlinville area. After graduating from Carlinville High School in 1942, he attended Blackburn College. He was called to serve his country in 1945, serving as an intercept operator in Africa in the Army during WWll.
A few years after his return from service, Bill married Alice M. Carleton on June 20, 1948 in Litchfield, Illinois. Bill farmed in the Carlinville area his entire life. He devoted himself to his family and farming. He also liked to bowl, hunt, and fish. He was a member of John L. Meyer V.F.W. Post 1104 in Carlinville.
Bill is survived by his wife Alice, son William Kenneth Meece and wife Becky, daughter Judy Bentley and husband Randy, son Kenneth E. Meece, and daughter Peggy Ward and husband Joe, all of Carlinville. Also surviving is daughter Susan Pentland and husband Roy, of Moolap, Australia.
Bill leaves twenty-three grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Bernice Releford Meece, grandchildren Billy Meece, Tia and Jasmine Ward, and sister Mindy Bishop. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26th, at 11:00 A.M. at the Rural United Methodist Church, rural Carlinville. Rev. John R. Curtis will officiate.
Visitation will be at Rural United Methodist Church, Saturday, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M.
Burial will be at Rural Cemetery, located beside the church. Donations Information
