Mike Melton 62, of Girard, passed away Friday morning, February 15, 2013 at his residence in Girard, IL. Mike was born on October 20, 1950 to Harry and Alice (Leer) Melton in Honolulu, HI. He graduated from Petersburg High School with the class of 1969 and attended 4 years of college. Mike also served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He married Karen Johnson on June 2, 1973 in Forsyth, IL. Mike was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Springfield for 25 years and enjoyed playing golf in his spare time. Mike is survived by 2 sons, Shane Melton (Mindy) of Girard and Daniel Melton of Thayer; 1 grandson, Ford; mother, Alice Melton of Springfield, IL; 2 brothers, Pat Melton (Sara) of Petersburg, IL and Harry Melton (Teresa) of Florrisant, MO; sister, Christine Melton of UT, as well as several nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Harry Melton. Funeral Information Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Inter Veterans Burial Detail.
