Edward Savorgino
Edward Savorgino, 95, of Lincoln, formerly of Springfield and Standard City, IL, died at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Maple Ridge Care Center in Lincoln.
He was born November 27, 1912, in Benld, IL, the son of the late Bart and Mary Fietta Savorgino. Willa Savorgino was his wife and lifetime friend of 33 years.
Mr. Savorgino retired as a food server for Lincoln Developmental Center in 1980. He served as secretary treasurer of ASFCME Local 425 for many years and secretary treasurer of AFSCME Retirees Chapter 31, Sub-Chapter 80.
Edward served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force from May 4, 1939 to July 31, 1950, followed by three years in the Air Force Reserve as a master sergeant. He served in Italy during World War ll. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1756 as well as American Legion Post 263 of Lincoln. He was also a member of the Eagles Aerie 2708, AARP, and POLKA of America. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Political Action Committee awarded him the Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation. He was a charter member of the World War ll Memorial Society in Washington, D.C. AFSCME Retiree Sub-Chapter 80 presented him an appreciation award in December 1998.
Surviving are his companion, Willa Savorgino of Lincoln, IL; children, Edward Savorgino, Jr, and Barbara Eggemeyer, both of Springfield, IL, Richard Savorgino of Roby, IL, Ronald Savorgino of Lindenhurst, IL, and Roger Savorgino of Renton, WA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Lydia Ann Bacon of Grand Rapids, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Levio Savorgino. Funeral Information
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. The Rev. Tim Rhodus will officiate.
Burial will be in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Carlinville, where Edward will honored with full military rites. Donations Information
