Carlan Best
84, of Carlinville passed away Sunday evening, October 13, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born December 11, 1928, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Lee E. Best and Carrie (Mieher) Best. Carlan married Marilyn Tetzlaff June 14, 1953, in Carlinville at St Paul's Evangelical Church.
Carlan graduated from Carlinville High School and attended one year at Blackburn College in Carlinville.
Carlan served his country in the Army, on the front line during the Korean Conflict.
Carlan farmed in the Carlinville area for over 62 years and retired in 1997. He enjoyed reading, fishing with his grandchildren, and spending time with his family. Carlan participated in the Heart Program at the Carlinville schools for 15 years. Carlan was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ as well as the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554 where he served as Past Commander. Carlan was also a member of the Mt. Nebo Masonic Lodge #76.
Carlan was preceded in death by his parents; Lee E. Best and Carrie (Mieher) Best and his two sisters Leatrice Stotler and Eldaleen Best.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marilyn J. Best of Carlinville, IL; daughters; Bev (Kurt) Neuhaus of Carlinville, IL, Marjie Best of Chicago, IL; and Amy (Rick) Rosentreter of Carlinville, IL; granddaughter, Jaime (Stephen) Boswell; grandsons, Ryan Sexton, Logan Rosentreter, and Lonny Rosentreter, 3 great granddaughters, 2 nephews, and 1 niece. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Carlinville. Masonic Rights will be offered by the Masonic Lodge #76.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday October 18, 2013 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ with Reverend Kevin Strope officiating. Flag presentation will be performed by the Guy Baird American Legion Post #554
Burial will take place in Moore Cemetery rural Carlinville at a later time. Donations Information
