Robert E. "Pappy" Adams
Robert E. "Pappy" Adams, 81, of Virden, formerly of Girard, passed away Friday evening, October 14, 2011 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
He was born on March 6, 1930 to George M. and Ruth E. (Quick) Adams in Carlinville. They preceded him in death. He attended Girard schools, until his senior year, when he enlisted in the US Navy, where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy, "Pappy" came home and started farming on the family farm. He also worked for the Freeman United Coal Company in Virden. On February 12, 1953 he married Rosella Millburg at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmersville.
Robert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Virden, UMW Local 1969, and Farmersville Knights of Columbus. He loved playing with his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening and fishing, and was an avid reader.
Robert is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years, Rosella, 4 sons - Dennis Adams (Paulette) of Springfield, IL, Douglas Adams (Leticia) of Houston, TX, David Adams (Joyce Lewis) of Girard, IL, Roger Adams (Geri) of Lynden, WA; daughter - Diane Dodd (Ike) of Waterloo, IL; daughter-in-law - Becky Adams of Girard, IL; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister - Elizabeth Nagel of Girard, IL; 2 brothers - George Adams (Arletta) of Girard, IL, Rev. Roy Adams (Phyllis) of Littleton, CO. Several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by son, Ron Adams, April 15, 2003, and a brother, Dean Adams. Funeral Information
Visitation will be held Monday, October 17, 2011 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. There will be a Prayer Service at 3:45 pm.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 10:00 am at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Virden, IL.
Burial will take place in the Girard Cemetery. Donations Information
