Rosalyn Adele Skaggs Towne
88, of Carlinville, formerly of Pekin and Carbondale, IL passed away Thursday morning, January 12, 2012 at Heritage Manor in Carlinville.
Rosalyn was born on August 29, 1923 to Alfred and Anna (Larson) Alfs in Casselton , ND. She married William L. Skaggs in Santa Ana, CA in June 30, 1945, and he preceded her in death in November of 1964. Rosalyn then married Clifford Towne in 1992 and they later divorced.
Rosalyn graduated from Pekin Community High School, class of 1941, and attended 1 year of nurses training. Rosalyn was primarily a homemaker, but also worked in the billing department for the two hospitals in Carbondale, IL. She later was a home health care aide, as well as working as an aide at the Crippled Children's School in Peoria, IL. She loved crafts, was a great cook, loved to travel and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She was the caregiver for her family. She was a remarkable woman full of life, humor and perseverance. Her family loved her dearly.
Rosalyn is survived by her 2 daughters, Cynthia S. Tipps (Gary) of Carlinville and Rebecca L. Skaggs of Overland Park, KS; son, Roger W. Skaggs (Kate) of Glenwood, NM; 4 granddaughters, Melanie Loughin (Todd), Jenna and Bethany Tipps and Lauren Aiello; 2 grandsons, Erik and Kyle Skaggs; 2 great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Raylee Loughin; a sister, Dorothy McLeese of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Skaggs; parents, Alfred and Anna (Larson) Alfs; two sons, Sidney and Lewis Skaggs; sisters, Ardis Barr, Betty Whittleton, Beverly Harpster, Phyllis Hathaway and twin sisters, Edith and Ethel Alfs. Funeral Information
A celebration of life service will be held at the Carlinville United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 25th, at 11:00 am with Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Chris Powell and Cynthia LaMar will sing "Jesus Is Calling", "On Eagle's Wings", and "You Raise Me Up", accompanied by Elaine Link. The congregation will sing "The Gift Of Love". There will be a visitation time from 10:00 am until the time of service, at the church. Donations Information
