Obituary of Marie Reznicek

Marie Reznicek, 102 of Carlinville, passed away Friday morning, October 2, 2015 at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, IL. Marie was born on August 14, 1913 to John and Mabel (Hahr) Zimmerman in Forrest City, IL. She attended a one room school house in Mason County for 8 years and graduated from Easton High School in 1931 as the Salutatorian and Loyalty Award Recipient. After high school, Marie attended Western Illinois University at Macomb on a scholarship and also attended extension classes from Southern and Normal Universities. She married Gus Reznicek in Macomb on June 8, 1938 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 1976. Marie worked as a "Nanny" for 2 lovely families in Pekin and Macomb IL. She also worked as a waitress in a restaurant in Moline and served as a private secretary to the president of the National Carloading Company in Moline. Marie started teaching all grades in a one room school in Mason County. She then spent 19 years in Macoupin county, teaching at Hettick grade school, Palmyra grade school and Northwestern Elementary, retiring in May 1977. After retiring, Marie traveled extensively. She was able to travel to Canada, Hawaii, England, France, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Nova Scotia and toured 40 of our 50 states. Marie was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching game shows, NASCAR and football on television and attending the Springfield Muni in the summer. She was a member of several associations regarding her teaching career in Illinois, as well as a member of the Carlinville Woman's Club, Springfield Woman's Club, Catholic Daughter's of the Americas, Church Woman United, K.C. Auxiliary, St. Mary's Church Alter Society, the mental health board, Council of Catholic Women, Macoupin County Hospital Auxiliary, Royalty Club, Macoupin County Historical Society, Friendly Neighbor's Club and served as a den mother and scout leader for many years. One of Marie's finest accomplishments was her membership of over 50 years to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Alpha Tau Chapter. Marie is survived by two sons, August A. (Susan) Reznicek of Hettick, IL, David N. (Carolyn) Reznicek of Carlinville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Marlene) Zimmerman of Springfield, IL; sister, Helena Whitlow; daughter-in-laws, Lynda Reznicek and Joy Reznicek, as well as several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Joe J. and G. Daniel Reznicek; daughter, Bonnie Reznicek; sisters, Pauline Braden, Marguerite Furrer and Gladys Van Horn and a brother, Earl Zimmerman Jr. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville with a prayer service being conducted at 6:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 10:00 am at the church in Carlinville with Father Michael Haag officiating. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery.
