Howard Aloysius Burleson, 99 of Carlinville, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016, at Heritage Manor in Carlinville, IL.
Howard was born February 8, 1917, in LuVerne, IA, the oldest son of Guy C. and Florence (Rhodes) Burleson. He married Dorothy Pitman on June 5, 1940 and she passed away August 23, 1984. He later married Gladys (Meyers) Rosentreter on March 14, 1987.
He started his career at Curry Ice and Coal and Farm Supply of Carlinville. He was subsequently manager at Archer Elevator Co-Op in Springfield and Farmer City, IL. He then moved to Missouri to manage MFA exchanges for 23 years in Green City, Louisiana, New Haven and Elsberry, MO. He retired in 1984 and moved back to his home town of Carlinville.
He enjoyed yard work, country music, playing pinochle, yard sales, auctions, and dancing. He was a member of the Plainview Baptist Church and Plainview Masonic Lodge.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dorothy, step-daughter Patricia Duncan, great-grandson Daniel Duncan, Jr., brother Cecil Burleson, sisters Florence Krueger and Mary Alsop.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016, 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, May 6, 2016 at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville. Burial will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville.
Howard is survived by his second wife of 29 years, Gladys (Rosentreter) Burleson of Carlinville, IL; sons, Larry (Marge) Burleson of Carlinville, IL, Dale (Rose) Burleson of Midland, MI, Dean (Venita) Burleson of Louisiana, MO; daughter, Diana (James) Fuld of St. Louis, MO; step-son, John (Audrey) Rosentreter of Carlinville, IL; 12 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; step son-in-law, Bob Duncan and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Plainview Baptist Church or Plainview Masonic Lodge.
