Obituary of Catherine Brown

Catherine J. Brown, 65, of Carlinville, formerly of Gillespie, passed away Saturday evening July 30, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. Catherine was born on February 4, 1951 to Louis and Dorothy (Crouch) Steward in Springfield, IL. She graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1969. On July 5, 1975 she married Glenn Brown at the Atwater Christian Church. Cathy preferred to be called a homemaker, even though she had worked for the Illinois Secretary of State as a data entry operator and then taught kindergarten and first grade at the Imagination Station Day Care Center in Litchfield. She was a member of the Gillespie United Methodist Church. Catherine loved quilting, crocheting, crossword and jig-saw puzzles. Catherine is survived by her husband Glenn; son, Carl E. Brown of Nilwood, IL; two sisters, Phyllis Harms of Carlinville, IL and Patricia Carty of Oregon; several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Catherine was preceded in death by parents, Louis E. and Dorothy M. Steward. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2016, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at 10:00 am at the Carlinville United Methodist Church, Carlinville, IL, with Rev. Rex Hendrix officiating. Burial will take place in the Bethel Ridge Cemetery in Atwater, IL. Memorials are suggested to the Carlinville Food Pantry or the Nazarene Food Pantry or the Carlinville United Methodist Church.
