Obituary of Nona Evelena Settles

Nona Evelena Settles, 98, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday morning, June 25, 2017, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville, IL .

Nona was born December 30, 1918, in Scottville, IL, a daughter of Albert Martin and Martha Hannah Reed Edwards.

She married Emmett July 4, 1936, in Virginia, IL and he passed away June 4, 1987.

Nona was saved in 1949 at Bethel Baptist Church in rural Greenfield and was a long time member of Cross Church in Carlinville and was very active until later years. Her work history starts with Olin in Alton where she made ammunition during WW II, Macoupin County Locker where she worked as a meat wrapper, school bus driver, homemaker and farm wife. Nona enjoyed community service and her family.

Nona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Stephen L. Settles, granddaughter, Susan L. Settles-Haynes, grandson, Dennis W. Settles, siblings, Leta, Ralph, Flossie and Floyd.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville where funeral services will held at 11:00 am with Rev Cliff Woodman officiating.

Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville.

Nona is survived by her son, Donald Lee (Kathleen) Settles of Winchester, IL, son, Norman Wayne (Norma) Settles of Carlinville, IL, granddaughter, Constance K. Lee, granddaughter, Donna J. Moy, grandson, Bruce W. "Bill" Settles, sister, Mary Catherine (Kate) Bridges of Carlinville, IL, 9 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
