Obituary of Paul S. Rothe
Paul Sanner Rothe, 83, of Girard, passed away Friday evening, September 7, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Paul was born on November 6, 1934 to Herman G. and Pauline (Sanner) Rothe in Palmyra, IL. On June 6, 1954 he married Norma Burch in Palmyra, IL. She survives.
Paul was Chief Master Sergeant for the Illinois Air National Guard in Springfield, retiring in December 1991. He was a jet engine mechanic and was the engine shop supervisor. He also farmed in the Girard and Modesto area. After his retirement, Paul joined the Civil Air Patrol, where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the Squadron Leader. He had been with them for over twenty years. On April 7, 2015, Paul took the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight to Washington DC. Paul was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church and former road commissioner and school board member for the Girard School District.
Paul is survived by his wife Norma; two sons, Danny (fiancee, Nina Rossini) Rothe of Springfield, IL and Doug Rothe of Springfield, IL; three daughters, Teri (fiancee, Clark Bowman) Hays of Carlinville, IL, Jeri Rothe of Alton, IL, Cheri (Rich) Roper of Carlinville, IL; ten grandchildren, Sara Rothe, Eric King, Keri Healy, Luke Hays, Mandy Barbre, Tori Rothe, Matt Rothe, Jacey Roper, Briley Roper, and Kaney Roper; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; Herman G. and Pauline Rothe; grandson, Michael King; brothers, Herman L., Earl, Alvin, and Norman Rothe.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Girard, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 10:00 am at the Girard United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Doane, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials are suggested to either the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or to the Girard Rescue Squad.
