Richard D. "Rick" McCaherty, 70, of Carlinville, passed away Tuesday evening, November 6, 2018 at his residence in rural Carlinville, IL.
Rick was born on April 23, 1948 to John L. "Tink" and Ruth E. (Smith) McCaherty in Carlinville, IL. He graduated from Northwestern High School with the class of 1966. Rick served in the United States Air Force but was honorably discharged before serving in the Vietnam War. He married Jill S. Leach on November 25, 1989 at Blooming Grove Christian Church in Rural Palmyra.
Rick started his working career at McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, MO. He then worked for Schien's Body and Equipment, as well as in sales for Plaza Truck Service, both in Carlinville. Rick later worked for HandH Construction and then moved on to start his own business, McCaherty Construction. Rick prided himself on being a finish carpenter and credited a lot of those skills from working with Ron Paul. You could always find Rick at Taylor's Chili at Noon and Friday evenings at the Anchor where he loved visiting with friends. Rick was a true country and western music lover. Some of his happiest times were spent in Nashville and listening to George Jones.
Rick is survived by his wife, Jill of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Kelli (Cody) Stewart of Carlinville, IL; son, Sean McCaherty of Carlinville, IL; daughter, Karli McCaherty of Carlinville, IL; mother, Ruth E. McCaherty of Carlinville, IL; grandson, Kasen Stewart; sister, Sandra (Darrol) Mansfield of Carlinville, IL; brother, Clyde (Cher) McCaherty of Springfield, IL; sister, Jeanne McCaherty of Golden Valley, MN, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Carlinville United Methodist Church, Carlinville, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 10:00 am at the church with Paul Reynolds officiating.
Burial will take place in the Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Carlinville Public School Breakfast Program.
