Condolences
I want to offer my deepest sympathy to the friends and family. May you find comfort and peace in Gods promise Revelation 21:3-4 "pain and death will be no more". Again my condolences.
Bill was a good man, giving selflessly to his church, his community and his friends. In his life, he touched the lives of many with his gentle manners and his dedicated service for the betterment of other people. This generous man, along with his brother Bob, impacted my life in my early years of ministry, for which I have long been grateful. May he know the peace beyond understanding and the joy of God's kingdom.
Bill, you were a great friend of my family and a great guy! You will be missed greatly! I know you are in heaven now looking in on us! God Bless you. You had a great life that touched so many of us ! Thank you! Sincerely
We knew Bill through bus trips with the Civil War Round Table. He will be missed.
I always enjoyed knowing Bill and working with him in the Macoupin County Historical Society.
I can't believe my wonderful friend is gone. We laughed, took Civil War bus trips and studied history together for many years. Bill felt as close to me as a family member. Thank you for including me in your life.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr.Deck a few months ago while working as an RA.
I must say I enjoyed our talks/stories. I will miss him dearly.
I have known Bill since I was a young boy going to Deck's Drug Store in Girard to get horehounds from the barrel and to have a cherry (or chocolate) Coke. As a young man, I returned to Girard briefly after reaffirming my faith in Jesus Christ. Bill became a friend and mentor to me as I was seeking to grow deeper in my faith. Many years later, I returned to Girard again, and it was my privilege to serve as Bill's pastor at First Christian Church. Bill had a deep love and concern for the congregation and for his beloved community it continues to serve. I was so glad to see Bill named Citizen of the Year in Girard last year. His influence on the city will continue to be felt through his work with the Community Center & Museum, the local food pantry, First Christian Church, and many other labors of love. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your Lord."
Bill was a member of my first church out of seminary. He and his brother Bob were very good friends of mine throughout the years. He will be greatly missed. We are praying for all who knew him.

Bill, Girard will not be the same without you... you were a gentle force of nature ... absolutely one of the nicest man I’ve ever known and I’m sure everyone would agree with that! Rest In Peace, you left this world a better place because you cared!
Bill was an amazing man. His love of people and history and helping others was evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Bill readily share his passionate his community of Girard in so many ways. We worked with Bill on the Girard museum creation and also the Route 66 Blue Carpet group. We loved to hear about Bill's many missionary trips that he made over many years. It would not be possible to count the number of people who have been touched by this sweet man's life. May we continue to share and live the legacy of Bill Deck.
