Obituary of Spencer C. Herzberger

Spencer C. Herzberger, 92 of Carlinville, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, at his residence in Carlinville, IL. Spencer was born November 13, 1926 and raised with his sister in Carlinville, IL, a son of George and Frances (Spencer) Herzberger. Spence entered the Navy in 1944 and served during WWII. After the service he married Verna "Bunny" Combes, May 29, 1948. Spencer and Verna together had two sons. She passed away May 21, 1994. Spence later married Frances Ann "Fran" Feltwell on May 18, 1997 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Carlinville. Fran passed away June 27, 2013 in Carlinville. Spencer's career started as a lineman with General Telephone Company in Carlinville. He retired as the California Vice President of GTE with 40 years of service. He spent his free time traveling the United States. Spencer was preceded in death by his wife, Verna "Bunny" Herzberger, wife, Frances Ann Herzberger, father, George Herzberger, mother, Frances Herzberger and sister, Dorothy (Herzberger) Tetzlaff. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019, 9:30 to 10:30 am at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Carlinville, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:30 am, Monday, April 15, 2019 with Rev. Kevin Strope officiating. Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville. Spencer is survived by his sons, Steven Herzberger of Colleyville, TX, and Jeffrey Herzberger of Lebanon, TN, step-daughter, Deborah Hartwick of Greenbelt, MD, a step granddaughter and two step great grandson's.
