Robert (Bob) Elwood Davy, Sr., 98, of Surprise, Arizona formally from Illinois and Missouri passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 11, 2023, at his residence with his daughter, Pamela at his bedside. He is survived by his son, Robert E. Davy, Jr., twin daughters: Pamela J. (Charles) LaFleur and Patricia A. (Stephen) Schnall; five beloved grandchildren: Robbin Neville, Meghan (Tom) Neisis, Rebecca (Will) Ervin, Christopher (Kelly) LaFleur and Leah (Garrett) Johnson and eight precious great-grandchildren with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Preceding Bob in death was his cherished wife of 57 years, Alberta (Bertye) Lou (Adams) Davy; parents: Clarence and Mary C. Davy; four siblings: Beatrice Hankins, M. Mildred Eberle, Ruth Davy and J. Warren Davy; and Ruth (Schultz) Davy, his second wife. Bob was born in Watertown, South Dakota but grew up in Illinois. Upon Bob’s graduation from Dwight Township High School in 1942, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. While serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre: Solomon Islands - Guadalcanal, Rendova, Munda on the New Georgia Island and New Zealand, he was among those on a rescue team for PT boat survivors including the PT-109 and where he earned a Commendation Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. In 1946 he received an honorable discharge at the rank of Technical Sergeant. Returning to Illinois Bob began his 35-year career with Standard Oil (BP). While commuting in a carpool to his first job he met and later married his wife Bertye. As Bob was working and raising a family, he became a charter member of the Amoco Credit Union and continued to volunteer there after retirement. No matter which community in Illinois, Missouri and Arizona he resided, he volunteered in many capacities for different organizations including veteran Marine Corp Leagues and VFW Posts. He always found time to assist Bertye with the MS Group in DuPage County, Illinois and the Handi-Capable Group in Sun City West, Arizona. Robert was a proud Mason for 71 years and during that tenure he became a Medinah Shriner. People were drawn to Bob due to his engaging smile and from there they discovered that he was a man of integrity, honor and optimistic determination. There are many relatives, friends, Marine veterans, members of the VFW and Masonic brothers who will remember him affectionately. His family is grateful for the foundation of strength and love he gave them. He taught them the value of perseverance, the importance of taking personal responsibility and to always be charitable to others. A Masonic service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, 226 North 3rd, Girard, Illinois. Following the service there will be a Marine Honor Guard ceremony at the Girard City Cemetery, 1060 West Center St., Girard, Illinois.
