Obituary of Buster Suttles
Please share a memory of Buster to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glen O. "Buster" Suttles, 72 of Chesterfield, IL, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 1st, 1950 in Woodriver, IL, to Clara (Woods) and Clarence Suttles.
Glen graduated high school from Northwestern in 1968. He then joined the Army and served in Vietnam in 1970-1971. He married Nina K. (Hill) Suttles on June 8, 1973 in Carlinville, IL.
Buster worked at Monterey Coal Mine for 23 years, and then retired from IDOT after 8 years as a bridge mechanic.
Glen was chosen to go on the Lincoln Land Honor Flight out of Springfield to Washington DC in 2014 with his daughter Kari as his guardian.
He enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his favorite companion Molly (his dog), where he fished for crappie to fill the freezer for spring and summer family fish fries.
Buster was active in his church (Chesterfield Bible Church) where he served as a deacon. He started teaching youth group bible studies until his health took him from that. He loved the Lord and celebrated with Christian rock music that he wanted to introduce to all his friends and family.
Buster was an avid hunter. He was able to go with his son on their dream Cariboo hunt in Canada in 2008. They all returned with a kill and had the time of their lives. Toward the end, he loved sitting with the grandkids to help teach them to hunt and watch as they learned. He also was an instructor for Clay Busters. He was a great teacher when it came to firearms.
Buster was loved and admired by many. His quick wit, great advice, and deep love for his family will be greatly missed.
Buster is survived by his wife Nina Suttles, his son Corey (Amanda) Suttles of Chesterfield, daughter Kari (Nate) Dwyer of Carlinville, 5 grandchildren (Ethan, Elijah, Emma and Emery Suttles and Vance Dwyer). He is also survived by a sister, Edith (Bill) Smith of Gillespie, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln Land Honor Flight or Hagaman Historical Society.
