Obituary of Gordon Sterling Allen

Gordon Sterling Allen, 79 of Nilwood, IL, passed away peacefully with "his girls" by his side on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL. Gordon was born March 2, 1944, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Sterling and Dorothy Mae Gwillim Allen. Gordon graduated from Girard High School with the class of 1962. Gordon was in the Army and served in Vietnam. He married Bonnie Gatton, on October 10, 1964, in Virden, IL. Gordon was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved the Chicago Cubs baseball and the Chicago Bears football. Any Big Ten basketball games but favored the Illini. His most favorite was bowling. He league bowled many years in Girard and Carlinville. One several occasions he got a 299 game. He was so happy to do that. When Gordon was not farming, you could find Gordon with his family. He loved to call or go visit with his girls. He and his girls would attend various tractor pulls in the summer and enjoy eating fair food. Gordon also enjoyed sitting in his lawn chair in the garage or back porch. He loved being in the outdoors and being with his family was his most favorite thing. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, 4:00 to 7:00 pm, at First Christian Church, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Friday, January 19, 2024, at First Christian Church, with Rich McElfresh presiding. Burial will follow in Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Carlinville, IL. Gordon is survived by his wife, Bonnie Allen of Nilwood, IL, daughter, Kathe (Greg) Cannedy of Rochester, IL, daughter, Stacia (Tony) Jennings of Virden, IL, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and brother, Gary (Terry) Allen of Girard, IL. Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue or Macoupin County Animal Shelter. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard is in charge of arrangements.
