Obituary of Evelyn J. Weller

Evelyn J. Weller, 92 of New Palestine, IN, formerly of Girard, IL, passed away in Shelbyville, IN on February 9, 2024. Evelyn was born February 18, 1931, in Girard, IL, to Lewis and Ruth Ball. She was born in the house that she would call home for many years. Evelyn went to school, which she enjoyed, before marrying her sweetheart, Ronald Dean Weller, on June 11, 1950. They spent their early married years in Paris, IL before traveling Illinois for Ron's career and raising their boys (Nelson Keith, Jerry Wayne, and Warren Bruce) before finally settling into their home on Sunset Lake in Girard, IL. Evelyn spent time working at Montgomery Wards, DeKalb Toys, JC Penny's, River Street Press, and Parkway Press. She would often tell stories of fond memories of her working life. Evelyn had many duties and responsibilities throughout her life, but the roles she had within her family provided her proudest accolades. Evelyn was the matriarch of the family leading with strength, support and love. She loved her husband unconditionally, which was heavily displayed in his last years when she would spend all of her days by his side. They enjoyed polka dancing, traveling, and making memories with family. Grandkids had countless happy memories of "Camp Weller" swimming, fishing, tubing with Grandpa Weller as spotter, assisting in home improvement projects, playing cards, going to town festivals/fairs, picking out a new toy, and enjoying iced tea. Grandma and Grandpa Weller took each grandchild to Disney World, and many have vivid memories leading the parade as Grand Marshal. Other special memories include picking blueberries for pies, riding behind the tractor on a sled, and Easter Egg hunts. Family pets have always been loved and cared about just like the rest of the family. Even in the most difficult times Evelyn persevered, certainly supported by her faith. She loved and supported her church, Girard United Methodist Church, and could always be found assisting in any way. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ronald in 2019, a son Bruce Weller, sister, Maxine Ball, brother, Harold Henry Ball and a grandchild. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 19, 2024, 9:00 to 11:00 am at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard, IL. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Monday, February 19, 2024, at the funeral home with Revs. Mark Doane, and Larry Mouser will officiate. Burial will follow in Girard Cemetery next to her husband. Evelyn is survived by her son, Keith (Loanne) Weller of New Palestine, IN, son, Jerry (Donna) Weller of Wheaton, IL, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Girard Methodist Church or the Girard Food Pantry. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Girard is in charge of arrangements.
