Obituary of Ed Stayton

Carl "Ed" Stayton, 88, of Carlinville, IL, formerly of Quincy, IL, passed away at his home in Carlinville on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Ed was born July 5, 1935, in Carlinville, IL, a son of Ted and Lucille (Greenwalt) Stayton. Ed attended Long Point grade school in Bird Township and graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1952. He married Carol Ann Kemp of Palmyra, IL, on December 18, 1955, at the Palmyra Christian Church in Palmyra, IL. They would later divorce. Ed had worked as an Operator in Springfield for Local 965 Operating Engineers. He later transferred to Quincy, IL where he joined the Teamsters Union Local 710 in Chicago for UPS and logged over 2 million accident free miles. He retired in 1990. Ed was a member of Carlinville Moose Lodge #1216 and Palmyra First Christian Church. During retirement Ed spent the winter months residing in Mesa, AZ. He, in his spare time, enjoyed playing golf and traveling to Texas and Florida. Ed returned to his hometown of Carlinville, IL, in 2004. He was an avid STL Cardinal fan and loved to play golf. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen V. Stayton, and sons, Douglas Stayton and Reggi Stayton. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 12-2:00 pm at Davis Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL. Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:30 pm, Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Charity Cemetery, rural Carlinville, IL, followed by burial. Ed is survived by his son, Lonnie (Laurie) Stayton of Sun Lakes, AZ, daughter, Karla (John) Gray of Creedmoor, TX,5 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, IL, is in charge of arrangements.
