I remember Dave "being" Santa to so many children. At one time, my staff and I set up our back office as a Christmas studio. We had Dave come in as Santa while moms and their children came to have pictures taken by Sara Way. What I remember most was his soft spoken, gentle way he talked to the children and how kind he was with each of them. I'm so glad those mothers have those pictures to remind them of how special "Santa" was.

Dave was instrumental in sending care packages to the USA Troops for the Carlinville Elks and Illinois Elks starting in 2005 and continuing for many years after. But the twinkle in Dave's eye was putting smiles on the many kids faces throughout Macoupin County representing Santa Claus for many years. As my fellow Elk Brother I say to Dave, peace be with you my brother until we meet again.

Dave Rathgeb

Dave was a very special gentleman who will be missed by family, friends, and those who knew him. Many in Macoupin County will remember Dave as Santa, but I remember him as the brother that my wife, Deanna, never had. He escorted her to the Coliseum Ballroom and protected her like a guard dog. Dave and Deanna are together again in the heaven they so richly deserve. I have tears in my eyes right now as I write this. I miss them both very much!!
